It’s the one item that will define your winter wardrobe – The Great Boden Diaries’ Olivia Purvis explores the five key coats that will happily complement your personal style for seasons to come…
This season’s winter coat will take you from the office to Christmas party via chilly woodland picnics and leafy country walks (wellies and all). However, finding your soulmate coat can be pretty tough if you’re not sure what you’re looking for; fortunately, this season Boden has coats all wrapped up (pardon the pun) in terms of colour, print, crop and longer lines. Here, I’ve cherry-picked five of my favourite styles for this coming season and how I’d wear them (although, let’s be honest – the options are endless)…
The Amelia Coat has stolen my heart. Not only am I in love with the dogtooth-weave (serious retro kudos) but I love its almost androgynous semi-fitted shape. This silhouette makes it perfect for pairing with skinny jeans and boots come the weekend and an A-line dress during the week. An all-rounder, it comes in more muted weaves if this pattern is a little bold for your taste.
If a neat-collared coat is what you’re after, prepare to be very pleased because the Ingrid Coat has got you covered! Not only does it come in an array of paint-pot brights (from a sunny yellow to brighten those chilly days to a classic wintry charcoal), it also has a princess-style fit – making it a brilliant buy to button up and keep out the cold.
Pretty as a picture (and one which I like to think has been named after a certain princess), the Kate Coat is a modern twist on a ladylike classic. The coat’s colour-pop piping makes it a great way to brighten up a more subtle look and – if you’re that way inclined – perfect to match with a bold lipstick!
If getting out of bed in the morning is more than a little tasking turn to the wrap-style Claudia Coat. Ideal for snuggling up in on those cold commutes, this coat ticks all of the on-trend boxes, as well as being terribly flattering (thank goodness for the tie waist). Team with everything from printed Bistro Crop Trousers or flared skirt and woolly tights when the weather cools off.
Mohair Mix Biker
If you’re not ready to commit to a fully fledged winter coat just yet, this Mohair Mix Biker Jacket will see you through the last of the autumn days and makes for a perfect trans-seasonal layering piece with everything from jeans to basic tees. When party season does kick off, this little gem is the ultimate number to throw over a pretty dress or metallic crop trousers. I love!
