Off-duty Christmas

Off-duty Christmas

One of this season’s biggest trends, knitwear is the perfect foundation for eclectic and glamorous outfits that will work hard over the festive season. Olivia Purvis showcases the pieces to match the crucial dates in your diary

1. A pre-Christmas shopping look
“If you’re going from the office to shopping to an evening out then you need a look that is both easy to wear and glamorous. I’d pair a printed skater skirt with a cosy cashmere sweater and shirt for some clever layering (and flexibility). If you’re feeling super-seasonal, add a statement necklace and shiny tote for extra sparkle.”

2. A glamorous Christmas Eve
“For me, Christmas Eve is one of the most exciting days in the Christmas period and spending it out and about – meeting up with friends for a mulled wine, last-minute shopping, seeing The Nutcracker – makes it all the more special. A cute knit with a sparkly finish and some comfy (yet suitably glamorous) trousers are a pretty much a winning combination whatever your plans.”

3. Christmas Day
“The fun of dressing for Christmas Day is anything goes. The ingenious design of this jumper means you get can ramp up the glamour while still staying cosy all day. And even if the heels are just for the morning – it’d be a shame not to wear them!”

4. A Boxing Day walk
“The day after the big day is all about comfort. With yesterday’s leftovers, selection boxes and mince pies still to finish a morning walk with showing off your finest Fair Isle  is pretty much obligatory for Boxing Day. Being the season to be jolly, it’s absolutely a-ok to go all out matchy matchy too. Just add dog and loved one (in my case my boyfriend Joe).”

 5. A post-Christmas catch-up
“If you’re out for a cocktail-infused evening or even tucking into a festive three-course (Yorkshires and all) – there’s something suitably failsafe about a white shirt and trouser combination accessorised with a draped crewneck. A festive pop of colour never goes a miss and Christmas isn’t just reds and greens – embrace the season’s hues and mix burgundy and raspberry palettes for a suitably winter chic look.”
