WORKWEAR: THE BODEN EDIT

WORKWEAR: THE BODEN EDIT

Whether you work in a super-formal office or somewhere more laid-back, your 9-to-5 wardrobe can be tricky to pull together. We spoke to three women behind the scenes at Boden HQ to find out how they style their working week. First up, Director of Buying for Womenswear, Cathy Newnes-Smith…

Tell us about your role at Boden…

Buying is often described as getting the right product in the right place at the right time. We work very closely with the designers to set the shape of the range and help decide what gets selected. We then work with our suppliers to make the best possible product and deliver it on time for our customers.

What do you love about your job?

The people. Everyone is so passionate about Boden and our customers – no one more so than Johnnie. The variety is also great. I can be attending a trade fair in Paris, shopping in New York, analysing sales patterns to set future strategy or reviewing new-season development samples. No two days are the same.

What’s your proudest career moment?

I love it when we get the product just right. Currently, I am very proud of our great jersey dresses. As a busy working mum, I love anything that is easy-care, super-flattering and looks great on all body shapes. I have met several of our customers who live in these dresses and they make their lives that little bit easier and more stylish – I love that.

“I travel a lot with work, so I need to be comfortable while on the move but still smart enough to head straight to meetings at the other end. These super-stretchy trousers  always keep their shape and the cashmere’s  cosy on a plane.”

“This is a great outfit for meeting suppliers. Smart and appropriate, but with a fun pop of colour. I’d also wear this skirt  with a white shirt  and some navy tights  when it’s really cold.”

“Definitely a presentation outfit for me! It’s one for my next directors’ meeting. I would also wear this out for dinner with a strappy heel and some statement jewellery.”
