Say hello to a brand new season.
We’ll admit that we’re a little sad to bid farewell to summer, but we’re consoling ourselves with thoughts of luxurious layers, cosy cashmere and, of course, a new winter coat. This month is also the time of year when the fashion industry descends on the world’s biggest style hubs to see the latest designs as they hit the runway and report back on the trends we’ll all be wearing in the not too distant future. With this in mind, we thought we’d ask some of our favourite fashion bloggers how the city they call home influences their style during fashion month and beyond.
Mariko Kuo of Silk & Suits takes us on a whistle-stop tour of her city, London, and explains how the architecture and atmosphere impacts her personal style… and across the pond Olivia Jeanette of The Corporate Catwalk takes to the streets of New York, showing us how the energy and eclecticism of the Big Apple finds its way into her wardrobe.
“My name is Mariko Kuo and I’m a Japanese fashion and lifestyle blogger and a lawyer working in the city of London. I’ve lived in the British capital for over ten years now and consider myself a Londoner at heart. For me, London style is chic and sophisticated with lots of individuality and creativity. Londoners know how to take on trends and make them their own.”
My Style: In A Nutshell
“Comfort without compromising on style is a key motto I live by, especially during fashion week. With so many shows, presentations and events to attend, running in heels (quite literally) becomes standard practice. This outfit sums up my motto perfectly. The dungarees in stretch denim are so comfortable and easy to style up. The Harper Silk Scarf, with its gorgeous blue floral motif, gives the look a pop of colour, while the Saddle Bag fits all of my fashion week essentials including my camera. The Wave High Court Heels are by far the most comfortable heels that I’ve worn in a long time and the snow leopard pony print gives them that all-important sophisticated edge. “
London’s best-kept secret is…
“St Dunstan in the East is a hidden oasis in the City where I go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the corporate world. It’s a romantic and secluded spot that no one really knows about.”
Who’s the most stylish Londoner you can think of?
“I adore Alexa Chung’s London cool, chic style.”
Every Londoner’s pet hate is…
New York State Of Style
“Fashion Week is filled with unbridled enthusiasm and inspiration. New York City is always infused with energy, but there is that extra buzz this week with the eyes of the fashion world on our great city.”
“Being here in NYC now for over three years, I can’t help but be inspired by the diversity of fashion and the drive for self-expression. There are so many great fashion minds here that never fail to create unique and trendy looks. Whether it be for workwear or street-style, there is an endless amount of options for you to find your niche to express yourself.”
My Style: In A Nutshell
“This leopard print dress is a great way to kick-off the new season. It has become increasingly more difficult to find dresses that support my figure while matching my style. My baby bump is growing so much faster now that I am six months into my pregnancy, but the fit and feel of the Marisa Dress is perfect.”
“I love the retro look and the vintage-style collar. I can’t wait to wear this dress on a crisp Autumn evening out, paired with a smart coat or a lighter blazer on milder days. Bring on the layering!”
