The Great Cover Up

The Great Cover Up

Baby, it’s cold outside, which means you can’t procrastinate for too much longer. It’s officially time to start The Great Winter Coat Search. But worry not because this post, featuring fashion blogger and former fashion editor Erica Davies in four of our favourite Boden coats, may be all the ‘research’ you need to do. You can thank us later.

Without further ado, over to Erica.

“The autumn and winter months mean all sorts of cosy yet stylish things for me. It conjures up visions of cashmere V-neck jumpers, Sunday roasts in the pub after a crispy-leaf-underfoot-kind-of-a-walk and, of course, great coats. A great coat should be many things; stylish, classic, cosy and most importantly, a complete joy to wear.”

Check, mate

“This coat is the ultimate in sophistication. Wear with a prim knee-length skirt and it’s totally work appropriate or smarten up a more casual look, as I did here, by wearing with jeans. The slim cut makes it feel very chic, especially with this gorgeous silk blouse.

“I’ve let the cuffs poke out under a navy crew neck cashmere. And because any kind of animal print is totally a neutral in my book, I wore it with a pony clutch. I picked out the burgundy tone in the jacket with the high wave heels in the same shade and rolled up the bottom of the jeans to give a flash of ankle.”

Black and navy – yes, you can

“This is my take on matchy-matchy suiting – pair a navy and black midi skirt with a navy and black reversible coat. I wore this cosy wrap-around style with a bottle green poloneck for a splash of colour, but kept accessories simple with a pair of navy heels. It’s the kind of look I’d be as happy wearing to a meeting as I would to Sunday lunch at my in-laws.”

The perfect pairing

“I nicknamed this knit ‘The Killing’, thanks to its cool, Scandi-inspired pattern. I think it was born to be worn with this bold, cherry red duffle coat.

“I love the combination of the colour and print with the wide-leg jeans, which I teamed with navy pull-on ankle boots. As they’re the same colour as the denim, they give the illusion of having really long legs – what a bonus. I added a contrast colour pop with the addition of the blue Luxe Leather Shopper, which is perfect for everyday running around.”

Classic in camel

“This is a great take-you-anywhere outfit. The camel Jennie coat will become your wardrobe BFF for many years to come, thanks to some seriously chic styling.

“I wore it with a simple grey poloneck and cropped, kick-flare Richmond trousers (which brilliantly have a bit of stretch in them making them super comfy). The burgundy wave heels give a nod of sophistication to what is a very classic look.”
