Tell us about yourself and your role at Birchbox

“I am Content & Creative Director at beauty subscription service and e-commerce destination, Birchbox UK. My role is wide and varied – which is part of the reason I love it so much. It ranges from overseeing the look and feel of the box designs and products inside, as well as the content that is attached to it. Education is such a huge part of what we do – teaching people about the products they are receiving or buying – so content plays a vital role in that strategy”

What does a typical week in your life  entail?

No one week is the same! I can be out and about meeting brands or potential collaborators (like Boden!), or I can be in the studio filming video content or shooting Facebook Lives. I always carve out chunks in my day to be in the office doing the nitty gritty; meeting with the team, brainstorming ideas and in and out of meetings discussing our strategies and weekly updates.”

What’s the best thing about working at Birchbox?

“That’s an easy one: trialling beauty products! We try everything we sample so a) we know it’s good! And b) we can learn about the best way to educate our subscribers on how to use them.”

How do you like to change up your beauty routine ahead of a new season?

It depends on the season, really. Coming into Winter, I will add in an oil into my routine (Dr Jackson’s is one of my favourites to target winter skin – hello dryness and fatigue). For Summer, I start to get into my more lightweight hydration with mists and gel moisturisers (I’m obsessed with Bliss Drench n’ Quench). In the same way you adjust your wardrobe to suit the weather, my beauty regime follows suit.”

What one beauty trend do you think will be making an appearance in our make-up/beauty bags this year?

“Brows are having a really big moment and there is so much product development in the category. They are the new nails. Not that I am suggesting you apply nail varnish to your brows (!), but rather in the same way its become the new norm to go out and get a manicure, popping in somewhere to get your brows tidied and shaped is all part of the routine. By taking time and care to enhance brows to look the best they can, the rest of your face will fall in line. Groomed brows are the key to looking ‘put together’.”

What are the three beauty items no woman should be without?

“A good brow tamer (see above). My favourite is Benefit’s Gimme Brow, a blacker-than-black mascara (my go-to is Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara) and a good concealer (Lord & Berry Concealer Stick).”

How do you reboot and recharge after a busy day/week/month?

“A long bath and Netflix! I like to watch mindless TV at the end of the day to switch off and indulge in a bath – it’s such a treat for me. That and to hang out with my little boy, Noah. No matter how tired I am at the end of the day/week, he seems to pep me up better than any aromatherapy can.”

What are your go-to wardrobe essentials?

“Midi skirts, blouses, and a comfy pair of trainers or flat shoes. I like to look put together but still be comfy. Comfort is key.”

We’re big on print and colour here at Boden, how do you incorporate these into your own wardrobe and what advice do you have for anyone who is a little hesitant about trying them?

“I am big on print too – it’s a fail-safe way to brighten up any outfit. I like to be bold with a statement print on, say, a dress, and then you can break it up with more of a plain jacket/jumper over the top.”

“If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to creating an individual look (beauty or fashion), what would it be?

“Be yourself! Nothing looks better (fashion or beauty-wise) than someone who is comfortable in their own skin – so wear whatever makes you feel good.”
